When did you start the First step program, and how long did you participate?
What did the mentoring program entail?
My internship during my master’s in Geodesy and Geoinformatics enabled me to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world projects. Joining the Software Development team, our group fluctuated between 5 to 10 members depending on project needs. Notably, the Road Assessment projects were innovative, involving automated road damage detection, followed by geospatial data extraction and manipulation. Post-processing, our software delivered final results. Recently, our team merged with HAD Maps Team, doubling my daily interactions and bringing new ideas and energy. I’m currently engaged in a larger project and look forward to more diverse and challenging opportunities to enhance my technical skills.
What skills and knowledge did you develop during the mentoring program?
In my experience, the mentoring program involves both individual work under the guidance of a mentor and teamwork where individuals generously share knowledge, primarily within their team but also across other teams. The program fosters daily knowledge exchange. Working individually under mentor supervision helped me become more professional, precise, and independent in my work. From previous experiences, I’ve learned that effective communication forms the foundation of success for many of our projects.
What are the most important aspects of practice for future engineers?
Future engineers, despite their youth and lack of experience, have a secure environment and opportunities to contribute their ideas towards enhancing projects, products, and processes, including software and technologies. This exposure provides a gateway into a specific and dynamic industry where they can advance, foster creativity, develop technical skills, and collaborate with influential companies worldwide.
In what way did the internship influence the development of your professional career?
The internship served as my initial step into the workforce after graduating from my master’s program, marking my first professional experience and job. Being surrounded by young, talented, and successful individuals motivated me to strive for advancement. Working in such an environment enhanced my social, technical, and problem-solving skills. I believe it’s incredibly motivating when a company supports your growth, offering opportunities to gain practical experience and expand your capabilities. This encouragement is invaluable.
We are incredibly proud of Ivana’s journey with DataDEV so far. Her commitment, development and accomplishments have been truly impressive. We look forward to many more years of collaboration and success together.
