Regarding civil engineering, terrestrial laser scanning could be considered an efficient method for digitizing buildings facades, generating dense 3D point clouds available for further processing.

By using point cloud as a basis we can produce highly accurate and detailed 2D documentation such as floor plans, sections, and elevations views. In terms of data production, far greater flexibility is achieved by using point clouds compared with traditional methods of survey data capture.
